His teacher was Archimandrite Chrysanthos Aitolos, (d. 1785), brother of St. Cosmas. A distinguished teacher, Chrysanthos taught for a time at the Patriarchal school at Constantinople before he became Director of the school in Naxos. He shared Cosmas’ sentiments and convictions; and thus the powerful message and example of the saint of Aitolia began to influence Nicodemos at a very early age, when Cosmas was traveling about as a missionary.”
