Volume II of Contemporary Ascetics of Mount Athos
“The second half of Archimandrite Cherubim’s book of brief monographs of Athonite personalities comprise only three Lives by his own pen. The other two were added in the same spirit by the original Greek publisher. The St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood has added photographs, appendices, and an index for both volumes, in hopes of making the contemporary phenomenon of ancient ascetic exploit more available for the God-seekers of today. Most of the fathers were adherents of the ‘old’ church calendar, zealots in their spiritual make-up, yet stood above politics while passions raged on Mount Athos, as they still do in the Orthodox world. It would be unfair to the memory of these modern-day heroes to omit this fact, because their defense of traditional values renders moral support to those who still face the same problems.”
