Metropolitan Cyprian of Oropos and Fili
Translated by Hieromonk Patapios
“When one is about to go on a journey, my beloved brother in Christ, to any part of the world whatever, by one of the usual means of public transport, he cannot do this unless he has first booked the requisite ticket. [...]Can you travel without a ticket? No! So if we cannot travel in this transitory world without having the appropriate ticket, all the more are we unable to make the great journey from earth to Heaven, to Paradise, to the eternal Kingdom of our Savior Christ, without one. If you happen to board a means of public transport in order to reach your destination and do not have a ticket, you will be put off at once. In the same way, when a man’s miserable soul sets out after death on its journey to Heaven after its separation from the body, unless it has a ticket, unless it has been suitably prepared, it is not led to Paradise, but ends up in fearful Hades, in eternal misery.”
