[...]They accepted the miracles performed by the Lord as miracles, and yet at the same time they scorned them and jeeringly denied the miracles bestowed by the Divine goodness of God, and demanded a miracle of their own invention and discretion, a miracle which, had it occurred, would have destroyed the purpose of the coming to earth of the God-man, and there would have been no salvation for mankind.”
