No. 12 of St. Paisius Orthodox Monastery Series

“St. Joachim married St. Anna when he was twenty years old. All during their married life of over fifty years, they lived in simplicity and piety. Our holy Church Fathers explain that their purity and righteousness before God surpassed that of every married couple on earth, and that is why they were chosen to bring our Panaghia into the world. The blessed Elder Paisios of Mt. Athos [+1994] had a great reverence for this godly pair, referring to them as ‘the most dispassionate couple that ever existed. They had no carnal mindset at all.’ [...W]e have several reasons to seek the intercessions of these righteous ancestors of God by praying this Akathist so as to help us find wholeness in our lives, through seeking God’s healing forgiveness of the sins that shatter our soul’s unity and cause us to take our eyes off of Christ, the Source of ‘singleness of heart.’”
