“Saint Nectarios was born in 1846 into a family of Greek churchgoers from Silivria, on the shore oil of the Sea of Marmara in today’s Turkey. At baptism, he received the name of Anastasius. He had four brothers and two sisters. His parents were poor but they loved their children very much, raising them with gentleness and faith. They often told the children that God was everywhere and when they found themselves in difficulty, they should ask for His help because He can do all things. Anastasius heeded their advice and was very loving to his brothers and sisters.”
