Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene of Lesvos: Newly manifested Saints, who suffered Martyrdom by the Ottoman Turks in 1463 at the Monastery of the Nativity of the Theotokos near the village of Thermi on the Island of Lesvos. An account of their Life, Character, Message, and Miracles.
| By Constantine Cavarnos
Volume 10 of Modern Orthodox Saints
“Northwest of Mytilene, the capital of the historic Greek island of Lesvos, about half an hour away from the city by automobile, is the village of Thermi. It is in the midst of olive groves, less than a mile from the Aegean Sea. This village has become known throughout Greece and in every continent, because in 1959 a great number of strange miraculous events began to take place here and at the nearby site known as Karyes. In Byzantine times there was at Karyes a monastery, which in 1463 was raided and destroyed by the Turks.” —“Introductory”
